Nesting in a Flowerpot.

This is the story of a Mourning Dove couple, who decided to build their nest in a hanging basket.  Marienna received it for mother's day from one of our sons. The basket was hanging only a couple of  feet from the entrance door. When we noticed that they were building a nest, we decided to use the side door. We still had to water the plant for having a cover around the nest. So it happened that one day we wanted to water the plant and discovered that the first chick was hatched. It happened  on 2005-07-05. On the thirteenth day they started trying out their wings and they left the nest by the next morning. They flew down into the front yard and spent the whole day there. Than they flew away for the night . We used to call them " just an other Dove". Now we call them "our Dove".
The first chick was born.
They were sitting on the nest 24 hours a day.
This was the first time we noticed that the chicks were alone for a short time. They were five and six days old.
